Enkarasha is the Masai word for “Shuka” or wrap. This piece is not the traditional plaid sheet worn by the Masai. It is a lovely shawl decorated with Masai beads, buttons and the silver discs used by the Masai for adornment.
Each shawl is given to a Masai lady with the beads, buttons, discs, needles and thread required to hand bead it. It takes 5-7 days to complete a single shawl. This work provides a means of income that can be earned from their homesteads whilst caring for their families and livestock and being able to manage all their usual household chores. – A true cottage industry!
One can use it to jazz up a pair of jeans or as an elegant wrap for more formal wear or an evening outfit.
